Changing role of grandparents
A quantitative study
This report presents results from the Changing Roles of Grandparents research, conducted by UMR Research for the Families Commission. The research consisted of a telephone survey of 1178 grandparents; the sample included 162 Māori grandparents and 100 Pacific grandparents. The fieldwork was conducted from March 22nd to April 4th 2009.
The survey explored:
- How grandparents balance their own needs and interests with caring and family responsibilities; and
- What support and information grandparents need in order to do so; and
- What information others need so that they are able to provide relevant support and information to grandparents.
The telephone survey complements the full Changing Roles - The pleasures and pressures of being a grandparent in New Zealand report.
