Blue Skies Fund: research grants
A key role of the Families Commission is to promote research on issues that will give us and the public a better understanding of family life. Our Blue Skies fund has an annual budget of $100,000 for dynamic new work on family issues that promote innovative ideas and approaches. Funding will vary between $5,000 and $15,000 according to the type of study proposed.
The call for proposals is now closed.
We hope a wide range of New Zealand researchers will use the Blue Skies funding to examine contemporary and emerging family issues. The Blue Skies fund is intended for new research, emergent ideas, 'think pieces', and 'ideas papers' which have the potential to lead to new research.
We welcome all applications, and we expect most recipients will be researchers from academic institutions, non-government organisations, independent research organisations, community group members, or family practitioners.
Please note: The Blue Skies fund does not fund degrees. The Families Commission will consider applications on education and health provided these have a strong family focus and will make a difference for families.
A panel comprising Families Commission research analysts, strategic management staff, Commissioners, and independent reviewers will select proposals recommended for funding. These then go to our Board for discussion and final approval of successful proposals.
