How often should I check to see how they are managing?

When your children move out, they'll probably want to keep in contact – just don't overdo it! Phone them up occasionally to see how they are doing. If they are still living relatively close, perhaps set a regular date for a home cooked dinner.

Let them know that you have confidence in them but that they can always count on you for guidance and emotional support. If things go wrong, be there for them and help them work through their issues.
