Where to go if you need legal advice
There are a number of ways you can get legal advice from a lawyer, either for a fee or free of charge.
- Lawyers specialise in different areas of law – make sure you choose the right lawyer for your situation.
- Some lawyers will charge for an initial meeting - ask about their charges first.
- If you have not used a lawyer before, ask your friends and whānau if they can recommend someone.
- If you are on a low income, you might be eligible for free legal advice – contact your local Community Law Centre to find out if they can help you.
