What if I'll be away from home?

Many teenage parties take place when parents are away from home. If you are going away, you could have an adult friend or relative stay at your home - or have your teenager stay with a friend's family. Other options to consider are:

• Get a firm commitment from your son or daughter that they won't have friends visit. Encourage them to not tell his/her friends you are away.
• Ask your friends and neighbours to keep an eye on your house. Get them to call you if they notice anything going on, or, in an emergency, to call the police. Make sure your son or daughter knows this.
• Tell parents of your son or daughter's friends you're going away.
• Lock away all alcohol.
