Starting school

Starting school is a big step for most children. It may also mark a new stage for parents – there's a good chance you're both excited and a bit sad.

Most children in New Zealand start school on their fifth birthday. All children must be enrolled from their sixth birthday until age 16. Most go to the school nearest their home, but you may want to get information on enrolment policy and zoning from other schools.
