Moving on from school

With their school years coming to an end, teenagers have many choices on what to do next - tertiary education, further training, a job, or something else altogether. As parents, we can help guide and support our children as they work out what's right for them.

Helpful tips

  • Talk with your teenager about their interests and strengths, and how their school subjects might lead into further education or work. You could work out a plan together.
  • Discuss options with the school careers advisor. If your teenager doesn't have an online computer, most schools have access to CareerQuest, so ask about this.
  • Find out about all available training options.
  • Find out about funding and scholarships. There are many scholarships and grants that may help cover some costs of tertiary education or career development.
