Why Families Matter
The assumption that families do matter underpins the very existence and mission of the Families Commission. It is an assumption that is widely held and fervently quoted; sadly, however, it is not always supported by actions.
The Families Commission has collected personal essays from a diverse group of New Zealanders on the subject "Why Families Matter". Each essayist has a unique perspective on family, and we think you'll find them all interesting reading.
In a related project, we talked to staff, parents and children from Victory School in Nelson, where their family-centric approach has resulted in dramatic improvements in behaviour and education outcomes.
